General: Polypterus senegalus is a uniquely adaptable, lobe-finned fish from streams of Africa. Being a primitive species, a pair of ventral lungs may be utilized to briefly survive in an terrestrial environment. The ability to "walk" while out of water may be evidence of the Polypterus senegalus being one of the first aquatic species to adapt to the terrestrial environment.
