Description

General: The Birdsnest (Seriatopora hystrix) naturally occupy many various ecological niches thru-ought reefs surrounding Indonesia, Australia, and the Red Sea. Birdsnest are typically slow to acclimate, but will likely grow rapidly once comfortable in their new environment. Like any coral, Birdsnest should only be added after having completed the Nitrogen cycle. This SPS naturally prefers an environment with intense light, moderate current, and a safe area away from aggressive corals. Birdsnest may bother other coral if they are within reach. It is important to ensure that there is a sufficient amount of Calcium, and Magnesium in the aquarium. It is also important to ensure that there is a minimal amount of Phosphates within the system.

Temperament: The Birdsnest (Seriatopora hystrix) are typically a passive coral. However, it is often best to maintain a six to twelve inch space between Birdsnest, and other potentially aggressive coral.

Aquarium Diet: Filter feeding corals will experience accelerated growth rates with the addition of various species of plankton, as well as other microscopic food particles naturally present within cycled aquaria.
