General: The Tuxedo Urchin (Strongylocentrotus purpuratus) naturally occupy various intertidal reefs thru-ought the eastern Pacifc Ocean. As an herbivore, the Tuxedo Urchin play a large role in controlling the amount of algal populations within the Pacific Ocean. Efficiently consuming algae, it is important to provide the Tuxedo with enough resources. If Tuxedo Urchin are kept in too small of space, or too high in number, they will quickly run out of algal materials to consume. The Tuxedo Urchin are considered to be reef safe, and do well in peaceful environments without Seastars.
Aquarium Diet (Herbivore): The Tuxedo Urchin (Strongylocentrotus purpuratus) will consume Daphnia, Spirulina, Seaweed, and other decaying matter naturally found within aquaria.
