General: The Caridina cantonensis var. "Crystal Black" are an invertebrate species from the wetlands of Southeast Asia. Crystal Shrimp are peaceful, colorful, and will frequently reproduce assuming optimal water chemistry. They can reach a length of two inches, and live up to two years in captivity.

Fecundity: The Caridina cantonensis var. "Crystal Black" may produce up to 50 eggs per clutch.

Preferred Water Chemistry: Slightly acidic (6.2-7.4 pH), soft water hardness (1-8 dGH)

Shrimp-Safe Water Chemistry: Nitrate (NO3) less than 20 parts per million, Nitrite (NO2) absent, Ammonia (NH3) absent

Aquarium Diet (Omnivore): Algae, Herbivore Pellet, Algae Wafer, Boiled Vegetable

Dimorphism: The Caridina cantonensis var. "Crystal Black" female will reach a relatively large size, in comparison to the male. Also, the female will develop a brighter coloration when ready to reproduce.

Compatibility: The Caridina cantonensis var. "Crystal Black" are typically compatible with other peaceful shrimp species, Corydoras, Otocinclus, Danio, Rasbora, Pencilfish, Guppy, and smaller Tetra.
