General: The Electric Blue Jack Dempsey (Rocio octofasciata) is a naturally-occurring color morph of the Jack Dempsey Central American cichlid. The Electric Blue Jack Dempsey have been recognized to be less aggressive, and reach a relatively small size in comparison to the natural standard Jack Dempsey color morph. The Electric Blue Jack Dempsey should be kept in an aquarium of fifty gallons, or more. Any live plants kept with Jack Dempsey should be thick-leafed, or naturally well-rooted into rock/driftwood as the Jack Dempsey will attempt to re-arrange the habitat.

Fecundity: The Electric Blue Jack Dempsey is an egg-layer that will construct a crater-like nest. The Electric Blue Jack Dempsey may produce up to 1000 eggs per clutch. After the fry hatch, defensive parenthood will be demonstrated in the general area of the nest.

Preferred Water Chemistry: Slightly acidic (6.2 to 7.5 pH), intermediate water hardness (3 to 12 dGH)

Aquarium Diet: Brine Shrimp, Ghost Shrimp, Blackworms, Spirulina, Carnivore Pellet

Dimorphism: The Electric Blue Jack Dempsey (Rocio octofasciata) male will develop an elongated dorsal, and anal fin. The female will have short, rounded fins. When ready to reproduce, the female will take on a more gravid appearance.

Compatibility: The Electric Blue Jack Dempsey (Rocio octofasciata) are typically compatible with other Jack Dempsey, Severum, Oscar, Jewel Cichlid, Plecostomus, Synodontis, and Silver Dollar.
