74-82° F, 5-12 dGH, pH 6.0-7.2
General: The Electric Blue Ram is a genetic variation of the natural Ram Cichlid Mikrogeophagus ramirezi. Being a dwarf cichlid, it is typically compatible with other common community species. They are native to slow moving tributaries branching off of the Amazon River in Venezuela, and Colombia.
Fecundity: 100 to 200 eggs per clutch. The female will spread eggs on a fertilized surface, and the colors of the mated pair will become brighter.
Habitat: A heavily planted, and dimly lit environment will help persuade Ram cichlid pairs to reproduce. Having driftwood can provide the water with a natural stain, adding to the effect.
Preferred Water Chemistry: Soft (3 to 12 dGH), and slightly acidic (6 to 7.2 pH)
Aquarium Diet (omnivorous): Brine shrimp, baby brine shrimp, blackworms, spirulina, general flake.
Dimorphism: The male Mikrogeophagus ramirezi will be larger-bodied, and have a slightly more pointed dorsal fin. Also, the male with have elongated anterior (front) dorsal spines. The female with have a smooth anterior dorsal comb.
