Description
General: The Melanurus Wrasse (Halichoeres melanurus) naturally occupy the Great Barrier Reef, as well as tropical reefs surrounding Japan, and Samoa. The Melanurus Wrasse will reach a length of five inches, are considered to be reef safe (with caution), is a relatively hardy starter fish, and will require a minimum tank size of 20 gallons. This member of the scientific family Labridae is typically an active, and peaceful fish. They prefer a fine base of sand, as Wrasse often burrow to rest at night. The Melanurus Wrasse may be kept as an individual, or in groups larger than three. Regardless, the Melanurus Wrasse should always be kept with peaceful, or semi-aggressive fish species. A popular choice within the hobby, this Wrasse will typically help consume planaria, as well as Aptasia.
