Blood Parrot Cichlid
8" - 12"
Minimum Tank Size
Neutral (6.5 to 7.8 pH), intermediate water hardness (6 to 18dGH), 72 to 82 degrees Fahrenheit
General: A genetic dead-end, the unnatural Blood Parrot Cichlid is the hybrid product of the Red Devil, various Severum, Midus Cichlid, Convict Cichlid, Texas Cichlid, or Redhead Cichlid. Although the Blood Parrot Cichlid themselves will attempt to breed, the eggs will be infertile.
Fecundity: Genetic dead-end, no viable offspring will be produced
Aquarium Diet: Omnivorous Cichlid pellets, brine shrimp, blackworms, ghost shrimp, spirulina, feeder fish, general flake
Compatibility: Considered to often be semi-aggressive, the Blood Parrot Cichlid will typically be compatible with the Jack Dempsey Cichlid, Severum, Synodontis, Acara, and Oscar Cichlids. In a large enough aquarium, the Blood Parrot Cichlid is sometimes compatible with fast-swimming species (Silver Dollar Tetra), Gourami, and larger Livebearers (Swordtail, Molly).
Preferred Water Chemistry: Neutral (6.5 to 7.8 pH), Intermediate Hardness (10 to 18dGH)
Dimorphism: Every Blood Parrot Cichlid juvenile has a black, silver, and white coloration. As they mature, the Blood Parrot Cichlid slowly turns orange, or pink. Determining the gender of any Blood Parrot Cichlid is difficult. The male Blood Parrot Cichlid will show a deeper red coloration around the operculum (gill cover) when it is ready to breed.
