Description


General: The South American "Eartheater" Redhead Tapajos (Geophagus steindachneri) is a large, peaceful Cichlid that will sift algal materials off substrate, and recreate its own environment. The Redhead Tapajos can add a splash of color to any aquarium consisting of other relatively large, passive fish species.

Fecundity: The Redhead Tapajos (Geophagus steindachneri) is a mouth brooding Cichlid, that may produce up to 200 eggs per clutch.

Preferred Water Chemistry: Neutral (6.5 to 7.5 pH), intermediate water hardness (6 to 18dGH)

Aquarium Diet (Omnivore): Brine Shrimp, omnivore pellet, Ghost Shrimp, Blackworms, Spirulina

Dimorphism: The Redhead Tapajos (Geophagus steindachneri) male will typically reach a larger size than the female. Male Redhead Tapajos will also display a more noticeable green coloration on the dorsal portion of the body.
