Description

General: A semi-aggressive Mbuna member of the scientific family Cichlidae, from Lake Malawi in the East African rift valley.

Fecundity (Reproduction): The "Yellow Lab" is a mouthbrooder, meaning the female will carry fertilized eggs in her mouth until the fry hatch two to three weeks later. Typical fecundity of this species is 10 to 20 eggs per clutch.

Aquarium Diet: Spirulina, brine shrimp, blackworms, Cichlid flake/pellet

Compatibility: A good match for less aggressive Mbuna, Peacock, or Hapalochromis.

Dimorphism: The male, and female, "Yellow Lab" are very similar in appearance. The male slightly differs in size, as it is typically the larger gender. From a behavioral perspective, the male will attempt to control a territory. From an aesthetic perspective, the male will have egg spots on the anal fin, as well as slightly more pointed dorsal and anal fins.
